Inno Vietnam-Japan Meetup Vol.20: Latest Investment Trends and Financing Insights for Vietnamese Startups
On June 22, 2026, Inno Vietnam-Japan Meetup Vol.20 took place at The Sentry C, Sonatus Building in Ho Chi Minh City, bringing together over 60 delegates from both Vietnam and Japan. The event was co-organized by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, the Vietnam-Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCH), and the National Innovation Center (NIC) — with this edition focusing on the latest investment trends and financing mechanisms to support Vietnamese startups in their expansion to international markets, particularly Japan.

Vietnam Startup Investment Trends: Tech-Forward Companies Take the Lead
Ms. Le Hoang Uyen Vy, Co-Founder and General Partner of Do Ventures and Chairperson of the Vietnam Private Capital Agency (VPCA), opened the event with a keynote on the current investment landscape for Vietnamese startups.
Key highlights from her presentation:
- Vietnam’s private capital market is gradually recovering with positive signals from both domestic and international investors, following a period of market correction in 2022-2024.
- Vietnamese startups are attracting increasing attention in sectors with clear technology applications: healthcare tech, fintech, B2B SaaS, logistics, and especially artificial intelligence (AI).
- Investors are increasingly prioritizing startups with real revenue and sustainable business models, rather than growth at any cost.
Japanese and Vietnamese Banks Join Forces for Cross-Border Financing
Mr. Yoshizawa Toshiki, Board of Director at OCB Bank and Senior Manager at Aozora Bank, presented practical financing perspectives for companies seeking to grow internationally. With 15 years of experience working in Vietnam and a background overseeing Aozora Bank’s entire Asian operations, Mr. Yoshizawa shared how local and Japanese banks are collaborating to extend credit to Vietnamese startups looking to expand into Japan – addressing a long-standing gap in the cross-border journey of Vietnamese tech companies.
The event also featured a real-world showcase on the business development experience of two notable supported startups: Buymed – a leading B2B pharmaceutical distribution platform in Vietnam – and Fundiin – a pioneer in providing Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) solutions in Vietnam.
The final session belonged to Mr. Mizuguchi Kenji, General Director of CC Innovation Vietnam (part of CCI Group, formerly Hokkoku Financial Holdings). Drawing on his background at Hokkoku Bank and having established a representative office in Ho Chi Minh City in 2021, Mr. Mizuguchi provides advisory services for Japanese companies entering the Vietnamese market and supports Vietnamese businesses with financing through a collaborative framework with their Singapore entity (CCIS).
Networking: Where Real Connections Begin
The nearly one-hour networking session was where conversations truly began – between Japanese investors and Vietnamese startups, between support organizations on both sides, and among those actively seeking concrete collaboration opportunities. BlockchainWork CEO and Co-founder Le Ngoc My Tien attended this session, connecting directly with investment funds and business partners across the Vietnam-Japan ecosystem to introduce talent solutions for the blockchain and Web3 industry, serving tech companies in both Vietnam and Japan.
Le Ngoc My Tien shared: “What struck me most is that Japanese investors and companies are no longer looking at Vietnam simply as a low-cost market – they are looking for genuine technology partners. And when it comes to making technology partnerships work in practice, the first challenge is always people. That is exactly what BlockchainWork does: connecting the right blockchain talent with the right companies, from Vietnam to the world.”
